Woodex Tongue & Groove Profile

Woodex plastic wood is a material composed of various grades of recycled GPPS & HIPS along with various additives for colouring and UV stabilisation. Once the materials are mixed, they are extruded or moulded.

Additives, such as colorants, reinforcing agents, streaker colours and lubricants can be added to achieve a higher level of specification for the intended product’s use. Because of the material’s unique composition, Woodex can be manipulated to assume a wide array of shapes and dimensions. As a result of its content, Woodex plastic wood can be treated in a similar fashion as wood but is also moisture and rot resistant.

The density and structure of Woodex can be varied dependant on the end users’ requirements and preferences. The levels and grades of GPPS and HIPS can be varied give higher strength, easier workability and appearance.

Because of the cellular structure of Woodex it assumes many of the same characteristics of wood and can be subjected to the same processes, including planning, drilling, and sanding. Nails, screws, and other fasteners often achieve greater hold when used with other Woodex components or other materials, which can result in its ability to use smaller fasteners to hold more. Additionally, Woodex offers superior water resistance when compared to basic wood or Wood Plastic Composite materials with no moisture expansion. The lack of moisture present within Woodex also results in resistance to decay.

Woodex plastic lumber / wood is made from 100% recyclable material made of recycled plastic in the form of lumber or timber. It is made of 100% plastic, and not to be confused with wood-plastic composite lumber.

Resistant to cracking and splitting when appropriately installed, plastic lumber can be moulded with or without simulated wood grain details. Even with a wood grain design, PL is still easy to distinguish visually from natural timber: the grains are the same uniform colour as the rest of the material.

One major factor in this environmentally precious age is that unlike wood and wood composite products Woodex is more environmentally friendly and requires less maintenance than wood/plastic composites and will last a lifetime with little maintenance, it will not rot or decay. Unlike wood-plastic composite lumber, Woodex is 100% recyclable after its original intended use.

Woodex, Plastic lumber is composed of virgin or waste ps products including plastic cups, packaging, cd cases and many other waste products. The waste is then compacted, pulverised and then palletised at roughly 240 degrees C and then extruded or moulded to the desired shape. Additives such as colorants, coupling agents, stabilizers, blowing agents, reinforcing agents, foaming agents, and lubricants help tailor the product to the target application.

Resin, regrind, and most of the additives are combined and processed in a pelletizing extruder. The new material pellets are formed in a mould and cooled. Pre-distribution testing can help determine the optimal combination of chemical agents, design, agitation, and other flow aid strategies for the specific material in use. Modern testing facilities are available to evaluate materials and determine the optimal combination of equipment components to assure the highest level of accuracy and reliability.

Woodex can be extruded or moulded to meet almost any desired requirement, a major advantage over wood. It can also be bent and fixed to form strong arching curves. Plastic lumber behaves like wood – it can be shaped using conventional woodworking tools. At the same time, it is waterproof and resists all types of rot and mould. Woodex is not sensitive to staining from a variety of agents. A major selling point of this material is it doesn’t need to be but can be painted. It is manufactured in a variety of colours from white to black and can be suitably colour matched to any colour from either a sample or colour reference such as RAL or Pantone.
